The Kook Studio

About the project

Our own studio website: a bilingual, search-ready home for The Kook Studio, built around a bold editorial identity with case-file humour, oversized condensed type and a lime, pink and violet palette.

01 · The brief

Our own hardest client.

A studio's website is its most scrutinised piece of work. Ours had to show the taste we sell, explain in plain words what we do, and still be found by companies looking for a creative partner in Portugal, in English and in Portuguese.

It also had to sound like us. The Kook Studio is three people across strategy, design, marketing and technology, and the name means crazy. A polite agency template would have been the wrong answer.

02 · What the page had to do

Be memorable and be findable.

The site had to do two jobs that usually pull in opposite directions:

  • Put a clear positioning sentence on the homepage: what we do, for whom and where.
  • Show the work across graphic design, web and photography, with room for real case studies.
  • Introduce the team as people, not stock photos.
  • Turn interest into a structured enquiry.
  • Work equally well in English and European Portuguese, for people and for search engines.

03 · How we delivered

A case file, not a brochure.

The concept leans into the name. The homepage is Case Nº 001: “Crazy good.” The team appears on wanted posters, the portfolio is the evidence locker, the process is “method to the madness” and the enquiry form asks you to turn yourself in. Oversized condensed headlines, hard black rules and a lime, pink and violet palette give it the energy of an editorial poster.

The humour sits on top of plain facts. Every page says what the studio does in words that both a buyer and a search engine can use, and the Portuguese version is written rather than translated, with its own idioms and its own URLs for the landing pages.

The enquiry form is a three-step case file, covering who you are, what you need and the brief, with validation in both languages and delivery straight to our inbox. Analytics only load after consent.

04 · Built to be found

Engineered for search and AI answers.

Under the poster sits a careful build: Next.js with every page prerendered, English and Portuguese versions linked with hreflang, landing pages for the services people search for in Portugal, structured data for the studio, its services, FAQs and case studies, a generated social card for every page, an llms.txt file, and fonts subset to a few dozen kilobytes.
